The Fisherman, Settle

The Fisherman is close to the centre of Settle, and located very close to a car park. Coming in from the Skipton end of town, go through the Market Place heading towards Giggleswick. It's to your right as you drive out of the Market Place, the car park is to your left, with the entrance a few yards further down towards the filling station.
Service is usually pretty quick and friendly, and portions are good. There's a small menu - the proprietor explained to me that he'd rather concentrate on getting the basics right than to offer a huge over-complicated menu.
And get it right he certainly does! The fish is a delight, there are plenty of chips and I can fully recommend the mushy peas! I know I go on about these, but you can so often get it badly wrong. Their peas are prepared in the traditional way - soaked overnight in a sodium bicarbonate solution - and they're to die for! The only place that ever came close was the Bull at Broughton before the present management took over, but right now you'd be hard pressed to find better.
The cafe's not huge, and we've found tables reserved on a number of occasions, but even if you can't get in to sit down there's always the takeaway next door.
Highly recommended!
