What an amazing place! We'd been looking for a place to eat on our way over to Scarborough. We crossed the A1M and headed for a pub we'd stopped at a couple of years ago, only to find it had closed down. It looked as though we may have to plump for a Little Chef, which didn't fill me with joy (or whet my appetite) when we spotted a sign advertising meals just off the Ring Road around York.
It's a Caravan Park, Farm Shop and Cafe, which concerned me a bit - but we were hungry so in we went. And how pleased I am that we did!
The item on a pretty comprehensive menu that grabbed both our attention was sliced ham, egg and chips. Neither of us were prepared for what arrived, in just minutes. It was absolutely glorious! I haven't tasted ham like that in 30 years - huge slices; moist and utterly 'melt in the mouth' delicious. Eggs obviously free range (2 of them) cooked to perfection, and mounds of wonderful chips. Tea was good and strong without tasting stewed. There's lots to choose from, but please try the ham first!
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the adjacent farm shop is also well worth a look around while you're there. Everything's either made in-house or sourced locally, and the bakery is fantastic
The only very slight negative we could find was opening hours - they open at ten and close at four, and they're not open on Monday, but please, work round it - pay the place a visit, it's exquisite!
