In 2009 we celebrated ten years of Masterbrain competitions, raising money for our regions Air Ambulances. The concept of Masterbrain is simple, and is loosely based on a TV programme with a very similar sounding name. Up to half a dozen contestants take to the stage, answering 20 general knowledge questions, then a minute of rapid-fire questions on their own specialist subject. In between we run one of our regular quizzes too, and it has been great fun. On that night Cumbria's deputy chief constable Stuart Hyde did us the honour of coming along to present the awards - and ended up guest-presenting the quiz!
After the Rolls Royce Leisure committee was unilaterally disbanded by the club's management we took the reluctant decision not to hold a competition last year - but now we're being asked to do it again! It's too late to organise anything this year, but we will be back, and it will be at a venue somewhere within our own local region. In the meantime We'd like to pass on our grateful thanks to all who supported the Masterbrain event, not least Blair Duncan, who's taken part a couple of times at least, and even video'd the entire event on a couple of occasions. Thanks also to all the teams who took the trouble to venture away from their own local haunts to join in, and last but definitely not least John and Judith without whom the event simply couldn't have happened. Watch this space - we'll be back!!
